Owners of buildings located in Community Districts 4, 6, 8, 9, and 16 are required to have the Periodic Gas Piping System Inspections performed and filed with DOB before the end of 2026. (This does not apply to 1-2 family homes.)

The Department of Buildings has also announced that, beginning July 27, 2026, filing fees will be required for Local Law 152 inspection submissions.

Local Law 152 requires gas piping systems to be inspected by a qualified professional and a certification filed with the DOB. Failure to comply can result in a $5,000 penalty violation.

For owners and managers with buildings in this year’s inspection cycle, now is a good time to confirm whether an inspection has already been completed or needs to be scheduled before the filing deadline.
